I created this substack to practice writing and to get some word vomit off my chest. In a world that is divided in more ways than one, I choose to never discuss important topics and to create a space for those of us who want to talk about lifestyle, current events within pop culture, and entertainment.
I said I wouldn’t create a different Instagram account - But I did since I change my mind every five seconds (new world record). It's called @ourfaveday. It’s connected to this newsletter as a visual mood board. I don’t plan to make money off of it - just here for a good time. It’s so new that you’ll think a bot created it. I love a good mood board. And although no one asked, I’m inserting myself into the Bookstagram community, and along with tv and eventually celeb gossip, I will be discussing books I love that are filthy, raunchy, sad, and messy. I read about 30 books a year so I got some stuff to say.
Nothing about the royal family excites me except Prince Harry’s new book, “Spare”. He spills all the tea and I’m here for every second of it. He choose to narrate his own audiobook and what sparked my interest was listening to him tell a tale about his frost-bitten penis. Ha, say no more Harry. I will read this future New York Best seller.
I started reading “Story of the Eye” by Georges Bataille. This is the nastiest, filthiest book I’ve ever read. But I can’t stop now. I’m halfway done and I start to realize it’s not meant to be taken literal. It’s more like the sub conscious thoughts from the main character. Here’s a scoop if you' want to save yourself from sin:
“Story of the Eye, written in 1928, is his best-known work; it is unashamedly surrealistic, both disgusting and fascinating, and packed with seemingly endless violations. It’s something of an underground classic, rediscovered by each new generation. Most recently, the Icelandic pop singer Björk Guðdmundsdóttir cites Story of the Eye as a major inspiration: she made a music video that alludes to Bataille’s erotic uses of eggs, and she plans to read an excerpt for an album”. - crazy right? 🤤 Why am I reading this? Maybe because I was sheltered growing up in an adventist home and I’m breaking religious cycles passed down to me.
Anyway - find me on Goodreads here. What are you reading? What do you plan on reading? Did you read Spare? Is it good? Is it a waste of my time?
I am here for all the book talk! I had some friends read 'Story of the Eye' a couple years back and were hooked in a way I never could with Bataille's writing. Which, I think is the point... write so candidly that it will excite some and repulse others. That in itself is a craft. Currently rading: Malibu Rising by TJR (which I know you're a fan of!) and is so wildly different than Story of the Eye. Balance!
